Holiday classes for children

All workshops will be held at Mangawhai Art Workspace, 45 Moir Street, Mangawhai Village

Making Christmas Decorations and Gifts  3 hours 

Secondary school age children: 2 x 3 hour sessions on December 15
9.00am to 12pm and 1pm to 4pm

Primary school age children: 2 x 3 hour sessions on December 16
9.00am to 12pm and 1pm to 4pm

​To coincide with the official opening of our new Art Workspace, we would like to provide some sponsored children's workshops to say a big “thank you” to the Community for helping make this facility available. 

These workshops will be partially sponsored and therefore will only cost $5.00 per child. This will go towards the cost of materials.
We will have three adult volunteers working with the children but will welcome any other adults that would like to stay and join in the fun. Maximum 12 students per session.

Some projects are:
Making and Decorating a 10cm square Christmas Box
Making and Decorating a Christmas Crackers
Making and Decorating 2 or 3 Christmas Cards
Making and Decorating 6 Christmas Gift Tags
Making and Decorating a 15cm high (approx.) Christmas Tree
Painting some paper for Christmas Gift Wrapping
Making and Decorating a Christmas Banner
Making Paper Flowers
Making Paper Santas

All materials will be supplied but please make sure the children are wearing something that they can paint in and have some water and a snack with them.
Primary school children must be signed in and out by a Parent or Guardian.

Tie dye for the Teens, 3 hours 9.30 to 12.30, Thursday 7 January 

Tutor: Karen Williamson

Ages 13 - 18
 
Cost: $30 per person

Maximum participants: 8

Classic tie dyeing plus learn some intricate Japanese Shibori techniques to create a vibrant rainbow of colours on your own pieces of clothing or other fabric items.
 
Materials provided: Non-toxic Procion dyes in a variety of colours and tie dye equipment will be supplied by the tutor.
 
What to bring: Participants need to bring 3 to 5 items of pre-washed cotton or linen (no polyester please) to dye such as t-shirts, singlets, socks, pillow case etc. I encourage you to find pre-loved items that you can up-cycle rather than buy new.
Fabrics will need a little bit of easy pre-preparation BEFORE the workshop to get the best results and instructions for this will be emailed upon registration.
Bring a morning tea snack, a pair of rubber gloves, a container to take wet things home with you and wear old clothes.

Description. In this workshop you'll learn how to create your own cartoon characters and create comic strips with a variety of fun creative activities that will spark your imagination.

Making a Harakeke (Flax) Necklace, Bangle and Ring 2 x 2.5-hour sessions

​Description.          
1st session - Cut the harakeke and prepare it for dyeing. Weave a bracelet and ring from pre-prepared flax.
2nd session – Using the dyed harakeke weave your necklace. (During the week between session I will dye the prepared harakeke to your requested colour)
