Phillipa Reeve
Painting
For Phillipa, painting is about jumping wholeheartedly into the unknown. A process full of tension, frustration, dead-ends, discovery and delight. A conversation between her conscious self, Creative Self and the world. A way of stretching and exploring an idea, word, assumption, perception or moment. Playing with the push-pull of color, shape, value, line and texture watching for what is revealed. A way of understanding and opening up to possibility. It is perhaps the surprise, the sense of connection and thé being lost in the flow that she loves the most about painting. Her hope is that for some, the paintings might continue to function as windows of connection, fresh meaning making and insight over time. |
Creativity has always been a defining characteristic of her life. In the way she approached it, generated ideas and mined possibilities. She has over the years, designed clothes and houses, completed a degree in creative writing, studied creative expressive therapies and immersed herself in writing poetry. However it was a twelve week intensive training with Art2Life and Nicholas Wilton done not long before her 70th birthday, that changed her life dramatically. Painting grabbed her heart, soul and curiosity in a way nothing else had. She made a decision to own a life as an artist. To create full time, to continue to learn and to share her paintings with the world. Solo pop-up art shows followed and her work found homes with both New Zealand and International collectors.
