Nina Gastreich

Photographer/Tutor/Artist
Originally from Germany, I came to New Zealand in 2003 for a working holiday year after completing an apprenticeship for offset printing. I worked freelance for a local paper in Germany covering Art Events and Sports performances - travelling with Triathlon Teams and getting a feel for moving subjects and telling the story on the day. The passion for moving people images grew, photographing dancers as part of final exams of my Diploma in Digital Photography 2013 in NZ.
Kingsize studios photo school in short courses broadened my experience and I shadowed fellow professionals of the AIPA and NZIPP during the years, which gave me many opportunities to gain hands on experience and practice in the Portrait, Commercial and Brand Photography realms too.
I specialize in Events (Lowlights and Motion) - and have a passion for emotional Portrait, Family/Kids Photography.
Stage/Event/ Performances are when motion and emotion mix.
I like to photograph a moment of the movement- to leave some of the imagination to the viewer, spark an emotion in the viewers; or move them - in a way. Preserve the moment when the dancer enjoys the passion of dance.
When I photograph people, I like to show them a different side of themselves – trust the process and enjoy the moment- not sure which one is your chocolate side??- lets find out!
They say never work with children or animals - well bring them all to me!! Both have not forgotten how to be themselves - they might not like a smile for grandma or a look in your direction - but their true self shines through.

Mangawhai gave me the opportunity to add a small but fine photography studio space that is weather safe and suitable for those little big emotions and moments:

Did you know you can hire photography and lighting gear or book yourself in a photography class for individuals or group sitting?
Choose from lenses before you go out and purchase something that does not work for your ideas or photography interest.
I tutor total beginners, and photographers who would like to pick up some new skills covering Lighting, Composition, Portrait, Motion, Macro and Landscape as well as photoshop for beginners one on one.
In the end – the only thing that makes you a better photographer- is go out and photograph!!!!
In my rare spare time - I love to go for photo walks and experiment with what comes in front of the lenses.
To choose a lens for the walk and then stick with it and create magic.
Give it a go- it's easier said then done to stick to one focus range.
But it teaches one a lot!!
If group or individual class is for you- or you have any questions I would love to hear from you.
I have/had the pleasure to work for and with amazing New Zealand and international dancers, performers, Photographers companies and schools including:
The legendary ITU Photographer Delly- Dell Carr, Fireflyphotography- Mr. Lighting Rory Laubscher,Mike Hollman Landscapes, Scotti T, Inspired by Dance Photographer Michael Papendieck and Scott, Belding
Phoenix Belly dance, The Dance Studio, IDCO, Momentum Productions, Dance24Seven, Skybound Studios, Movement Dance competition, Pineapple Productions, Silver Circle Productions, Tamashii Taiko Drummers, Auckland Dance Company, Spirit Inc, Viva Dance, The Red Queens, Medanz, Zouk Art, Erica Sunshine Lee, Ashley Lopez, Nina Martinez, Hannah Tasker Poland, Pip E Lysaah …Tempo Dance Festival, Fringe Festival, You Dance Festival, Auckland Regional Hip Hop Qualifiers, HHINZ National Hip Hop, Salsa Congress, Tapac, Western Springs College, Mount Albert Grammar, St. Cuthberts College, Mt Roskill College, Rodney College,
