Jude Thomas
Jude Thomas is a published author who moved to Mangawhai in 2017.
Writing has been in her blood since early childhood and at age six she wrote to Enid Blyton suggesting new Noddy storylines. Some of Blyton’s books went on to be banned in the 1950s – not necessarily because of that letter!
Jude was born and raised in Dunedin and this is reflected in her historical fiction writing. Her first novel ‘Southern Gold’ is set in Otago during the gold rush era, and the recently released sequel ‘Threads of Gold’ moves the story through the 1890s and into a new century. Jude also writes contemporary short stories.
Jude’s creative writing classes are fun and full of practical advice for new and emerging writers in the fast-changing world of book publishing.
Creative Writing for Beginners is designed to be a supportive and social way to connect with others who have always wanted to give writing a go. Jude will teach the key elements of creative writing: setting, plot, point-of-view, theme, style and characterisation. These elements can then be applied to various genres of writing. ‘No experience necessary – just bring your love of reading and your imagination!’ she says.
Jude is a member of the NZ Society of Authors, the International Writers’ Workshop, and the Historical Novel Society of Australasia.
