Lena Nelson
Ceramics
Originally from Sweden, I married a Kiwi and immigrated to New Zealand 1991. Over the years I have been designing gardens, been knitting, furniture painting experimented with different paint finishes, made jewellery, upholstering – anything creative really. When I owned the art gallery, I started making custom jewellery and have been for the last 10-15 years. 5 years ago, I came up with the idea of ceramics and making outdoor necklaces. I find working with ceramics incredibly challenging and rewarding - every time you open the kiln it is exciting and there is so much to learn. |
I like to use what I can find and enjoy collecting stones, shells and rocks from beaches. I am self taught and prefer straight lines, natural materials, blond colours - and I love white flowers.
My artworks are made to withstand the harsh elements in New Zealand. I had my first exhibition 2023 and this year Kay Airey and I are holding pottery workshops which have proven to be very popular.
