Mary-Anne Boyd
Painting, mixed media installations
Mary-Anne’s mother was creative with paints, fabrics and food, and her father was innovative in business and printing. Occupational therapy practice and post-graduate studies in behavioural and neurosciences, innovation, education, public policy and business strengthened her insights into the benefits of creativity and art for health, social and economic development in communities. Living and working in Glasgow, Helsinki, London, USA and Hong Kong reinforced for her the cultural significance of art.
Mary-Anne’s experience confirms it “takes a village to raise a child” and she values creating and supporting varied opportunities for people of all ages to engage in design, creativity and art. With experience across a range of media including printing, timber, paint, sand, fabric and clay, Mary-Anne has led community projects including large papier mache and kite installations, mobile puppet theatre shows, taught art and design and contributed New Zealand creativity to international business consulting.
Innovation and creativity have been strong themes in her professional and personal life through publications and new initiatives, painting, floral installations, interiors and gardens. Building on art classes in the South Island, she is enjoying learning from inspiring colleagues in Mangawhai. Her paintings are in acrylics and her Flowers & Flair installations for special events encompass themed mixed media with fresh flowers and foliage. She is inspired by people, the sea, nature and colour. She enjoys widening her skills and techniques through the outstanding Learning Opportunities offered through Mangawhai Artists Inc, of which she was Chair for four years to 2021.
