Nicola Everett
Nicola is a natural at teaching; she loves people and she loves sharing her knowledge and skills with others. She is particularly wonderful with children.
Nicola graduated from Ilam School of Fine Art, University of Canterbury. She went on to complete a Diploma in Education, after which she taught art and art history for a number of years, culminating in the position as Head of Art at Corran School for Girls.
On moving to Mangawhai with her husband Kim, Nicola has become a strong advocate for environmental issues. In her art she draws from her local environment, the balance of nature and how humans have altered it - to a point of no return. This change has in part been subtle, but cumulative. She likes to explore these concerns in many different media – printmaking, ceramics, paintings and installations.
In February 2018, Nicola's solo show at the Mangawhai Artists Gallery 'Gold and Oil, the Legacy and Menace of the Niagara' alerted locals and visitors to Mangawhai of the threat of the RMS Niagara which was sunk off the coast in 1940. Nicola's exhibition raised awareness locally and gained national publicity.
