Alf Smith
Painting
I am 72 years old born in Vavua, Tonga, went through the NZ education system finishing at Rangitoto College. I have always been a keen sportsman and always interested in art.
After my school years I served with NZ Police and then moved onto the Fire Service. After a stint as an Auckland and North Shore taxi owner/driver I then spent some years as a self employed graffiti remover throughout Auckland. The remaining 25 years of my working life have been spent as a Property manager at Auckland Viaduct, managing 170 apartments.
During my working life I have always had a corner somewhere to paint and currently have a small studio at my home. I enjoy painting seascapes and landscapes in any median. Since owning my Mangawhai property purchased in 1989 the rugged local scenery and colour has been my major focus to paint. I am an active member of the local community and bowling club and joined Mangawhai Artists Inc some years ago.
