Mary-Anne Boyd MPhil (hons), MPP, MBIE, Dip Ed, TDip OT, MInstD as chairperson brings both strategic foresight and attention to detail. With entrepreneurial flair, senior management, strategy and governance experience in private and public sectors and work in seven countries, she enjoys teamwork with the capable Committee members of Mangawhai Artists Inc. She is an active artist when not in her part-time Strengthening Families role of integrating multi-agency services around children and families in East Kaipara and North Rodney. She and her family have been part of the Mangawhai community for over three decades.

Belinda Vernon BCom, CMInstD - was co-opted to the Committee in December 2018, and is our deputy chair. She brings a range of useful skills from her background in accounting, management, volunteering, not-for-profits and politics. More adept with a spreadsheet than a paintbrush she is handy when it comes to filling in funding applications. She has responsibility for the Friends of Mangawhai Artists and was the leader of the team organising the 2019 Kaipara Art Awards. She is passionate about conservation, open water swimming, the arts and Mangawhai.

Wendy Leach DipFA, MFA (Hons 1st class), DipTchg - is an accomplished artist and art educator who has had an involvement since the beginning of Mangawhai Artists, interspersed with six years living in Belgium with husband Colin. Wendy is our webmaster and social media manager. She has exhibited in New Zealand and internationally and brings a world view to the Mangawhai Artists Inc. She is a key member of this leadership team. Wendy and her family have been part of the Mangawhai community for 24 years.

Grant Mitchell MA (Hons) DipTchg - is a hard working Committee member passionate about achieving the vision of the proposed Mangawhai Community Art Centre at Mangawhai Community Park. He has been very involved, and has worked tirelessly, in the construction of Mangawhai Art Workspace. He is a busy grandfather early in his retirement career – creatively developing the context of a new home with wife Cheryl. He has business experience in several fields and until recently was also on the Museum Board. Grant is the development lead.

Clare Wells Dip Tchg, PG Dip Ed, IODNZ member - is our committee secretary. Having recently moved north from Wellington, Clare brings experience in governance and leadership having held a number of national roles in the public and community sectors. Completing 11 years as Chief Executive of NZ Kindergartens earlier this year, Clare now works as a consultant - mostly in the education sector. She has a keen interest in the arts and enjoys contributing to our creative community. Clare was recently awarded the Companion of the Queen's Service Order (QSO), in the Queens Birthday Honours, 2020, "For services to early childhood education".

Raewyn Vague MBA - is our new treasurer and is also the co-ordinator of the Mangawhai Artists Workshop Programme. Raewyn recently retired after owning her own company since 2002 and working as a Consultant Health Analyst of the Health System. She has worked for several District Health Boards and the University on a part-time basis over these years. Raewyn moved permanently to Mangawhai in 2004 after owning a caravan here for the previous 7 years. Raewyn's interests include: Tatting, Muka work (flax fibre), Crochet, Wood carving, Quilling, Mosaics, Darjit (sculpting), Silver Clay, Flax Weaving and Bone carving.

Grace Cheng BSD, Dip Acc - is a ‘digital native’ who brings her generation’s perspective to the Committee. Grace works part-time and is an active volunteer and artist member of Mangawhai Artists Inc. Her background experience includes retail, accounts, exhibition technician at Auckland Art Gallery and volunteer work in a community art precinct in Melbourne.

Christine Den Hartogh has responsibility for coordinating exhibitions at the Mangawhai Artists Gallery. Christine a Dutch documentary photographer and photojournalist who came to New Zealand in 2016. Although photography will make an appearance again in her work in the near future, she is currently exploring botanical printing in different forms and techniques, moving between eco printing, printmaking, photographic techniques and mixed media. She studied art at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, media at Open Studios Amsterdam and photography at the Academy for Photography Amsterdam, specialising in documentary photography and photojournalism.

Christine Basham MEdLM(hons), Sec Tchg Postgrad, BA (Physiology and Eco)
Christine joins us with a love of arts, having been part of the Waiheke Art Gallery committee in the past. Now a resident of Mangawhai, she has taken on the role of media person in the committee. Christine has had a varied career starting in health, then completing a postgraduate degree and going on to teach economics, enterprise studies, biology and working as a Careers Advisor within secondary schools. She worked on curriculum alignment for Unitec between schools and Polytechnics. A key focus during this time was the Art and Design faculty. After completing a Masters degree in Educational Leadership and Management Christine moved to the University of Auckland and worked as a liaison person between faculty staff and employers and hosted many careers-orientated events to link students to employers, including fine arts and design. |
