Marina Bagley
Painting
When I begin a portrait it takes me on a journey.
The act of painting makes a space where creativity can take over from everyday life.
I study the history, the quotes and the bios of my subject until I feel I know them personally. Then once I begin to paint it is a totally absorbing experience and I live and breathe it.
It was fascinating for me to paint Frida Kahlo and Georgia O'Keeffe as they had such interesting personal and artistic lives.
During the painting process I experience a timeless space and a deep connection with my subject and begin a discourse with them which continues until I am finished.
Telling people's stories though their portraits has become my passion and my creative dream come true.
