A Facebook comment from a visitor to the Mangawhai Artists Gallery:
This was the MOST amazing exhibition! It should be on tour! Remember those Fun fair Chamber of Horrors? WELL! This was diametrically opposed! Into the dark darkened gallery - felt spooky - THEN! sparkles and fluorescence - it was totally the most magical art experience - and you should have seen the face of Kaipara's Mayor when he emerged to officially open the exhibtion! It was a picture of excitement and delight - did we all look like that when we also emerged? It was the adult version of a childhod fantasy world! CONGRATULATIONS Rosina! Hope everyone shares these images. It is what the world needs! Sparkles! Joy! Happiness - the concept was the inspiration of Rosina Kamphuis, - BUT!! over 1000 people painted this - what a wonderful sense of community. Please 'share' - we need more of this in today's world!

Magical Mangawhai Goes Bush is a free community art project led by Rosina Kamphuis (who led last year’s successful Stingray project) for Mangawhai Artists Inc.  Magical Mangawhai Goes Bush celebrates our native bush and the flora and fauna that make it so special.

Opening in time for the school holidays, on Friday 19 April by Peter Wethey the Deputy Mayor, the workshop is open every day from 10am, including ANZAC day and weekends up to Tuesday 1 May. The Mangawhai Artists Gallery has been turned to a community art painting centre for the duration of the workshop.  All ages can come along, children, adults, family groups. No art experience or painting skill is required.  Everyone is encouraged to work with paint and natural bush materials, river stones and paint on banners – drop in and paint!

An exhibition in the Mangawhai Artists Gallery follows the workshop.
‘One moonlit night .....’ will use all of the painted material from the workshop to make an exhibition and installation evoking our beautiful native bush at night.  Mayor Jason Smith will be opening the exhibition on Saturday 5 May at 3pm.

‘We hope that lots of people from every age group will come along and paint, then come back and explore the exhibition’, Rosina says, ‘this art project is for the Mangawhai community, families, artists, businesses, EVERYBODY!’
