Sharnah was born with an innate interest towards making things. With her hands, she can turn something ordinary into an authentic piece of art. Here is some of her journey and the making of an artist.
Growing up in a small town with less opportunities, Sharnah in year 7 was chosen along with two other students to work closely with Whaea Rei the art teacher. She achieved big things during this time. In year 7 she was chosen to design the first school magazine cover. The following year, Sharnah and two students designed the next school magazine cover. Sharnah was also awarded her school's first-ever Art Award. Whaea Rei is a big part of Sharnah's journey as an artist. She encouraged Sharnah to see her abilities and potential and to take steps to pursue art. From her art teacher, she discovered her dream to become an artist and decided she would devote her spare time towards creating works of art. Art became her ultimate refuge. She found that art has a magical power to speak for those who struggle to find their voice. Sharnah's abilities in art continue to accumulate and her passion is flourishing. She has always enjoyed drawing intricate patterns with different shades of pencil. The detail in her artworks takes your mind on a journey. Knowing there is more to be discovered in the realm of art, Sharnah is opening new pathways for herself, trying different mediums and exploring different concepts. Her hands are ready to create something new. Sharnah has begun her journey working with wood, using a soldering iron to create coaster sets and signage. Working with a versatile material such as wood she is reminded of her homeland Parikino with its vast landscapes and picturesque views. Her journey is just beginning. |
