December in the gallery
Mangawhai artists are thrilled by the support of local Mangawhai patrons and wish them all a happy Christmas and a wonderful summer. The Christmas exhibition is selling very well and every day new work is being delivered to the gallery on Moir Street. Jeanette Vickers, for Mangawhai Artists Inc, explained, ‘the art is flying out the door – people are buying art as gifts and for themselves. We have regular customers who are building collections of work done in Mangawhai and work by their favourite artists. First time visitors are blown away by the high standard of work available’. Nothing is priced over $150 and there is a good range of pieces below $50. You can buy and take it home straight away, ready to wrap for a gift or hang on your wall.
‘We wanted to let people know that new work comes to replace the work sold so people can call in any day and see exciting affordable art’
Jeanette reminds us that the gallery is open every day except Christmas day. Open between 10am and 3pm, ‘Call in on Christmas Eve, for a last minute purchase or a bit of aesthetic quiet time, then come again on Boxing Day and the 27th - the last opportunity until Christmas 2018!’.
January in the gallery
Straight after the Christmas show finishes the gallery celebrates summer and Mangawhai with work from two well known local artists. Inspired by the beauty of our area, ‘This is my Rock’ by Sarah C and ‘Form and Flow’ by Elena Nikolaeva opens 6pm on Thursday 28 December, all are welcome to the opening. The exhibition will show how each artist expresses their connections with Mangawhai. The exhibition will inspire visitors with abstract paintings and landscapes, with the two gallery spaces offering distinctive images and use of colour. Elena’s much loved quirky sculptures made from used objects will be on show as well.
Exhibitions change every two weeks up until June 2018.
