Painting
My mother taught us children to do many handcrafts, this was a necessity as we were a large family. There was that strong creativity streak waiting to be utilised. I have dabbled in crafts most of my life.
Other than doing art for two years at High School, I had not tried painting or drawing. I was determined to try Mixed Media and painting when I retired from a long career as an Accountant which I enjoyed so there had not been much time for creativity.
Joining Kowhai Crafts in Warkworth, has also been a way of meeting locals when I moved from Whangarei in 2012. Before moving, I attended a Workshop in Mixed Media with Elena Nikolaeva and I was hooked!!! Elena has encouraged me to try acrylics and paint and I haven’t looked back.
It has been a huge learning curve, and I go to as many workshops as I can. I am still trying various expressions of painting. I use acrylics still and enjoy doing abstracts/expressionism the most and am still establishing my own style.
I grew up in Otago and I have a love of the stark landscapes there and have incorporated that into some of my art.
Exhibitions I have shown my art at:
Mangawhai Artists 2016
Puhoi Art Exhibition 2015
Snells Beach – Great Summer Art Exhibition 2015,
Rodney Community Art 2016
Warkworth Hospice Exhibition 2017
Hibiscus Coast Hospice Exhibition 2017
