Andy Griffiths

I was born in 1965 in Barry, South Wales, UK. I currently live in Kaiwaka, with my wife, Amy and our two young kids.
When I was six, my father bought me my first comic book and my love of drawing was born. I spent many happy childhood hours copying images of Batman, Spiderman, The Hulk etc.
As I grew older, my art interests broadened and I eventually landed a job with small independent animation studio Siriol, in Cardiff, South Wales. I had a nine year career in animation culminating in a job as an assistant animator for Warner Bros Feature Animation in London on the movies Space Jam and The Magic Sword.
In 2004, I moved to New Zealand and continued my art career as a freelance illustrator working in the medium of digital art using software such as Illustrator and Photoshop. Since then, I’ve worked for over 350 clients on illustration, character design, logo design and website building projects.
There was a problem though. After 20 years, I was just getting bored with digital art. So, at the end of 2017, I blew the dust off my 30 year old set of Watercolour paints and made the decision to start “real” painting again.
I find watercolour painting to be the antithesis of digital painting. It is spontaneous and unpredictable. I'm inspired by the landscapes and seascapes of the Kaipara region and am really excited about this new phase of my artistic career.
