Kaipara Art Awards, 2019
Rules and Conditions of Entry
Entries are now closed​

The Opening and Awards ceremony will be held on Thursday 17 October commencing at 5pm.
Exhibition 0pen to the public from 10am, 18 October.

Entries are invited for the following categories
  • Painting (all paint media)·       
  • Mixed media (includes drawing, collage, fabric art etc)
  • Print media (includes printmaking, photography, digital etc)
o  In relation to the above 3 categories, works must be ready to hang with d-rings; and no greater than 1000mm wide*
  • Sculpture & 3D (all media, including jewellery)
o  In relation to Sculpture & 3D, works must weigh no more than 25 kg; be able to be moved easily by 2 people; be ready to hang with d-rings  (if intended to be hung on the wall); must be no greater than 1000mm wide*; works must not ‘environmentally degrade’ during the exhibition
*Size limitation: The size limitation for both 2D and 3D of 1000mm wide is imposed due to space restrictions in both galleries. Please consider the impact of the size of your work on the exhibition space before submitting. Large items may be excluded if unable to be accommodated.

Awards: In addition to prizes in the above categories there will be an Emerging Artist award drawn from one of the above categories. There will also be a People’s Choice Award, announced following the Dargaville exhibition.

Conditions of entry
  • The work must be original, not copied and must not infringe NZ copyright laws
  • The work must not have been exhibited in a public exhibition prior to this exhibition
  • The work must have been created within the last year
  • One entry only per artist, fee of $30.00 (non-refundable – unless entry not accepted)
  • The KAA 2019 committee has sole discretion to accept or decline an entry. 
  • An entrant must be a current financial member of an art group in the Kaipara District Council area. The entrant does not need to be resident in Kaipara. 
Entry numbers are limited to 60. In the event that there are too many entries to display, there will be a pre-selection process. If an artwork is not included in the exhibition (as a result of pre-selection) the entry fee will be refunded. Ideally a digital photograph of the work should be attached with the entry form.

Presentation:
  • Artwork  MUST be clearly identified with the artist’s name, address, title of work, medium used, selling price and category on a label on the back right hand corner of the artwork OR on a swing tag
  •  All entries must be ready to hang or display. Work not ready to hang or display will not be accepted.
  • Work must be packaged in reusable material suitable for vehicle transport with packaging clearly labelled with artist's name 

Sales & Commission
Works may be for sale.  Commission of 20% shall be charged on all sales and must be included in the sale price stated on your entry form. Artists will be contacted if their artwork is sold.  Unsold artworks must be collected from the gallery where they were originally delivered on the specified collection day. After this date, the KAA 2019 committee has the right to sell or dispose of unclaimed work.

Judging
The judging panel is independent of the organisers. Incorrect entry procedure or failure to observe the conditions of entry may result in the disqualification of an entry at the discretion of the KAA 2019 committee.  Winners will be determined by the judge(s) and the awards will be presented at the Awards Ceremony in the Courtyard, Bennetts, 52 Moir St, Mangawhai on 17 October 2019 at 6pm.

Insurance
All care will be taken for artworks received but the artists accept all insurance responsibilities for their artwork.

​Entry forms to be received by KAA 2019 committee by 5pm 20/9/19 by email to kaiparaartawards@gmail.com or post to PO Box 193 Mangawhai 0540 to arrive by 20/9/19.

Tuesday 15th October 2019
Works to be delivered to either:
  • Muddy Waters Gallery, 43 Hokianga Road, Dargaville between 9am and 12 noon or
  • Mangawhai Artists Gallery, 45 Moir St, Mangawhai between 4pm and 7pm.
Gallery staff at each location will accept and sign in works on the day. Works must be packaged, suitable for transporting between Dargaville and Mangawhai and vice versa. NOTE: The gallery where artwork is dropped off is where the artwork will be collected from at the end of the exhibition
Tuesday 15th October 2019
2pm: Work signed in at Muddy Waters Gallery will be loaded and transported to the Mangawhai Artists Gallery ​
Wednesday 16th October 2019
9am: Mangawhai Artists Gallery staff will display and hang all eligible art works
Thursday 17th October 2019
Judging (from 1.30pm) – no public access during judging
5.30pm: Pre-Gala viewing of art at Mangawhai Artists Gallery
6pm: Gala Opening/Awards Ceremony, Bennetts Courtyard, 52 Moir St, Mangawhai (till 7.30pm) 
Friday 18th
​October 2019
10am: Exhibition at Mangawhai Artists Gallery opens to the public
Tuesday 29th October 2019
Mangawhai Exhibition closes to the public at 3pm. Works are packaged ready for transport.
Wednesday 30th October 2019
9am: Artwork is transported from Mangawhai to The Muddy Waters Gallery. Muddy Waters Gallery staff to display and hang art works.
Friday 1st  November 2019
6pm Exhibition opening event at Dargaville Arts Centre Exhibition Hall and the Muddy Waters Gallery
Saturday 2nd November 2019
Exhibition opens to the public 11am in The Muddy Waters Gallery
Tuesday 26th November 2019
Exhibition closes to the public 3pm. Works are packaged ready for collection and/or transport.
Wednesday 27th November 2019
10am: Work originally signed in at Mangawhai is loaded and transported to Mangawhai. Work is available for collection from the Gallery it was originally signed in at: Collection from Muddy Waters from 11am to 3pm at Muddy Waters; Collection from Mangawhai Artists Gallery from 2pm to 5pm.
