Mangawhai Artists Incorporated will embark on a fundraising campaign in January 2019 to fund an extension to the Mangawhai Artists Gallery, behind our existing gallery at 45 Moir St, which will be known as Mangawhai Artists Workspace.
Opening in time for Auckland Anniversary weekend, a special exhibition opens at 6pm on 24 January with a silent auction running throughout the week and culminating with a Live Auction at 5pm on Saturday 2 February. This will be a fantastic showcase of the very best of Mangawhai (and invited) artists. It is an opportunity to buy art and support us in building our gallery extension. Mangawhai Artists Incorporated is growing; with 160 members we are fast running out of space. We would like to be able to run workshops and community activities all year round, at the same time as holding exhibitions of members' work. With workshops and community programmes being held in the building, the lack of toilet facilities has become a major issue.
Following on from the Auction we will be launching a Pledge Me campaign during February and March. The extension to the Gallery will be an all-year artists’ workspace (with a toilet facilities) for workshops, community programmes and year-round art experiences.
Mary-Anne Boyd, Chair of Mangawhai Artists says, ‘We are constantly asked if we can run more learning opportunities. And we are often asked when will we install a toilet! We have listened to the community and been thrilled by community support in this ambition. Now, we have received all the consents and approvals we need – we are ready to raise the money. We know we have the support and generosity of Mangawhai community to help us make the extension a reality’.
